My Life is in Your Hands…
This is a PSA… that is SUPER IMPORTANT to me! If you drive a car, please read these words and register them in your brain. This is literally life and death. As the weather warms, there will be more and more motorcycles on the road. For those that do not ride a motorcycle, this is very important and valuable information.
When I slow down on a motorcycle, I often do NOT use my brakes until I actually need to stop… this means, as a driver, you WILL OFTEN NOT ”SEE” my brake light EVEN THOUGH I am slowing down, sometimes considerably. Some motorcycles have a HUGE amount of engine braking that WE USE… and if you are behind us and you take your eyes or your mind from the road… just for a second, things can CHANGE RAPIDLY!
I can not even begin to explain how it makes me feel when I pull up next to a car and I am on my motorcycle, and I see you on your phone. The ONLY reaction you will SEE from me as I pull away is a shaking of my head in rebuke, but what I AM THINKING is that you don’t really care about my life. Whatever stupid thing you are doing on your phone is MORE IMPORTANT than MY LIFE…
As a motorcycle rider, I take my responsibilities on the road VERY SERIOUSLY! In the end, these are dangerous machines… no way around that They are also VERY EXPOSED! If you hit me… for ANY REASON… you, most likely, will be fine… I WON’T! PLEASE PAY ATTENTION! And just know motorcycles have the ability to slow down considerably, even if you don’t see the brake light. I LOVE TO RIDE… but it also terrifies me… please, please, please be my friend out there when you get into your car. In many ways, MY LIFE is in YOUR HANDS!
