If anyone is able to take their thoughts about this past week and write them all into a short blog post, I applaud you. I am not able. I will only write about one thought. One thought I can not shake, even though I have tried, because it is worthy.
Forgiveness…
Their are some political figures in America right now I can not stand. Just to see their face makes my muscles tighten and everything in me prepare to fight. I feel like they are “to blame” for all the chaos and destruction. The enemy. The ones to fight against with the most force.
I also believe I am wrong. These are fellow Americans. If this country is to survive, much less ever to have an opportunity to heal, these people, ALL people of this nation, will need to be part of the solution(s). I feel that almost everyone in this country has a “side” they are on and they are most definitely AGAINST the “other side.” Whoever the “other side” is most definitely is “wrong” and certainly deserves to be punished in some fashion.
I get it. I feel this way as well in some respects. I do not fault you a bit if this is how you feel. However, the very existence of the “sides” in America today reflects the fact that so many Americans (and those who would like to become Americans) feel left out and totally isolated from the American Dream. Isolating people further and punishing “the other side” in some way is not the solution.
The American Dream is for All! Not just “your side.” If you are “on a side”, please think about what this means. What does it REALLY mean for you, for others, for this nation? Us vs. Them has failed again and again throughout history. Admittedly, I don’t have the answers, but I can’t seem to shake this one thought, this feeling…
Forgiveness.
