The last picture is what was wasted… or actually what I will throw back into the woods near my apartment complex. Because this is untreated Cedar, there is NO HARM in placing this wood back into the natural environment from which it came. But it deserves to be used. To me, this wood was once a living thing with a very real story you can read in its grains if you are willing. There is beauty and life and sacrifice in EVERY piece of wood… actually in EVERY component we extract from Mother Earth, and the least we can do is pay attention and try our best to be conscientious consumers.

These pieces are made with limited electrical use and maximum human power. Two side cuts are made with a mitre saw. Some of the initial carving is done with a Dremel tool and the rest of the carving and all sanding and finishing work is done by hand. There is NO stain or varnish, as Cedar is an extremely resilient wood, and it is not needed. As much as is possible, the negative impact to the environment in which we all live is limited.

The purpose of this project is simple. Each piece that is designed and carved is meant to spread love, protection, and resilience wherever it is placed. It is also a way to repurpose beautiful pieces of wood that would otherwise go to a garbage dump. Lastly, it is simply a way for me to try and do some good in this world and create some positivity.
