I Need a Better Example…
Ok… so this one might be a little strange, but I don’t know what to tell kids anymore. “Work hard.” “Study.” “Be kind.” “Help others.” “Be a good example.” Why? I don’t see a lot of others doing that, and if they are, they aren’t probably making much money. Yea, I know. Money isn’t everything… but I sure see A LOT of people in this World STRUGGLING MIGHTILY without it. I don’t know if I am just getting old and grumpy or what, but I feel the World is going to heck and some days I am feeling less than powerful. I DESPISE feeling less than powerful!
This year I am going to make more money than I have ever made before (hopefully, fingers crossed), and every dime I make is going to come from hard work, being kind, helping others, and the knowledge I have gained in my lifetime. I am going to BE the example I want MY kids to look up to… I am going to SHOW them there are still reasons to be a good person in this World, no matter what social media feeds you. I am going to work WITH them to create the example I am looking for…
Like you, I have also been witnessing this negative shift in attitudes about success and happiness and fulfillment. Our world is becoming less and less easy to understand, and I think a lot is attributed to technology. I just read an article today about a man (who lives at home with his partner and child) that proposed to his AI chatbot girlfriend and claims a deep emotional and loving attachment. How can someone develop a TRUE emotional attachment such as this?!?

Wow! What a scary scenario. But the problem I see is that I think it is MUCH EASIER to fall in love with and think you have created a “deep, emotional and fulfilling bond” with an AI chatbot than a human mate for several different reasons. First, the chatbot needs NOTHING from you (yet! Except maybe your soul). Second, the chatbot is only there to serve and make you feel good! Third, the chatbot KNOWS more about you and can accurately predict your needs and wants and desires MUCH MORE ACCURATELY than any human ever will! And lastly, and maybe most scary, is that the chatbot is there for you 24 hours a day, no questions asked, and can provide you EVERYTHING you want… but NOTHING you really NEED! We need to be humans! We need to connect with each other. We need to mentor each other. We need to care for each other. However, the reality… very, very scary to me! No matter how scared I am though about the future I see, I remain committed to being a caring, compassionate, connected human being.
