Recently, I have been in a bad mood. I admit this state contributes to this viewpoint, but honestly, it really bothers me that we are putting all these sayings and images and memes and whatever else into the world… without REALLY thinking! We are NOT being honest!
I have been seeing the sign, “All Are Welcome Here” a LOT recently! On classroom doors and on signs in front of houses and ALL across the internet… it is EVERYWHERE! Great message… kinda… but HIGHLY, HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be truthful! If you have this sign in front of your house… Really? Is EVERYONE welcome? EVERYONE? Hmmm…
This has bothered me for a long time but it seems as though most of us in the world today ONLY care about the “IMAGE” we portray… We “LOVE” everyone and are “ACCEPTING” of everyone. For me personally, ABSOLUTE NONSENSE! There are SO MANY people in this world I will NOT welcome into my house or my personal sphere of influence. I am HIGHLY selective of who I “let” into my life and my personal spaces and I am proud of my “selectivity” and will guard this aspect of my life fiercely. I guess, for me personally, “NO!” Not everyone is “welcome” into my life. This is something I am proud of and I think about a lot. Sorry, but not sorry, you will not ever see an “All Are Welcome Here” sign outside my door. I think that is ok. What do YOU THINK?
I’m sorry you have been in a bad mood.
Of course a person shouldn’t physically welcome anyone and everyone into their personal home or sphere of influence. But I do think there is something to be said for those who are trying to openly ACCEPT all types of people, beliefs, and experiences without judgment. I know people will ultimately always judge others to some degree—it’s human nature. But I think these signs are simply people’s journey to at least work on a pathway to acceptance and encourage others to do so. It would make our world a much kinder place, don’t you think?
I don’t know, Betsy. I realize that is the INTENT of the sign… but what is the reality? Only speaking for myself personally, I think it is lazy intellectualism. I personally would NOT let MANY individuals into my home. I have no use for the Kardashians or known child predators or those who wish to convert me to a certain religion. I can work with them on a professional level but I will forcefully close my door to many in this world in my private sphere. I have no time nor energy to give to many. Aren’t there any in this world to whom you say “No, I am sorry but you are NOT welcome inside this door.” For me, I just realize I have limited time and energy and I don’t want to waste it… willingly. For me, No. All are NOT welcome. I am not saying I am right in this. I am just saying this is MY thought.
