Hazard Pay?
Yesterday… I spent all day working in a school knowing there was a “threat” that was made on a public forum “to shoot up all schools in this district.” Yesterday was a REALLY busy day and I did not really have much time to ACTUALLY think about what those words really mean… but when I did have a chance… IT IS A LOT! American schools have legitimately become places of employment where there is a chance you could die or be seriously injured from “unusual circumstances.”
And I am not talking ONLY about “school shootings”, but if you don’t work in American education you probably have no idea. I don’t know how many people in this world work with a “constant threat” to their very survival, but it is not fun. And to me, the REAL tragedy is that here in America NOTHING is really being done to address this situation. Lastly, making my way through my day yesterday gave me SO MUCH MORE APPRECIATION for those in our MILITARY who also live with a constant threat to their own existence. I am NOT comparing my situation to yours in any way, I just want to say THANK YOU for your service!
The danger/threat to anyone in our public schools is SO real. My daughter’s high school also had a similar threat on Wednesday and just yesterday a child with special needs died in the school closest in proximity. Our schools SHOULD be safe but they are NOT.
I am at a loss.
I would love to have some comforting words… I do not. Very, very sad.
