Radical Honesty…

I watched a video today about the power of “radical honesty.” I am sorry I do not have the name of the woman upon which the video was based, but it was extraordinary, at least to me. The video itself mentions a lot of different topics that are relevant and important to the world today, However, the two points that registered with me is the presentation of the “false self” many of us practice on a daily basis and the thinking that if we present our “true selves”: the messiness, the shame, the dirtiness, the forbidden acts, whatever it may be… that others will run from us. In reality, the exact opposite is true!

We are all fallible. We are all going to fall down. We are all going to make mistakes. We all have secrets that we would prefer to hide. But the amazing thing is that if we can somehow summon the courage to present ourselves “truthfully”, others will be drawn to our faults, our defects, our vulnerabilities. We chase “perfection” but we are actually drawn to the “imperfections.”

You are imperfect. I am imperfect. We all are imperfect. And through these imperfections, we can actually, in a very real and meaningful way, connect with each other. Be imperfect. Be bold. Be brave. Be authentic in your radical honesty with yourself and all others. Only through this practice can we begin to heal and nourish our “real selves” and those of others and begin to make this world a place where each of us can thrive as needed and desired.

Betsy, I DO love that you always comment on these posts! Thank you! But I have noticed one small trend… it seems as though each week’s response just seems to get shorter and shorter. I am just wondering what next week’s response might be… a two letter word? An emoji? No response? But seriously, I do appreciate you reading the posts. It does mean a lot to me and does provide just that bit of extra motivation. Thank you. Thank you.
