Quiet, Inner Peace…

In many ways, this week I am grieving. This week I have lost. I have lost not only the position in my life that helped to fuel most of my days but I have also lost a person that helped to fuel all of my life. This world WILL shift on you. There WILL be times in your life where nothing makes sense and everything seems upside-down.

This week I started a redesign on my personal website, HRMHelps.com. I am investing a lot of time, energy, and money (at least for me) in this endeavor. It is personal… In these past few weeks, I have had the honor and the heart-breaking agony of being witness and companion to some of my young friends at school having the world as they know it… SHATTERED! There have been some VERY TOUGH days for some of my young friends in these past weeks… and these days have been brutally tough for me as well. Furthering this fire, my world has also been shattered. This month of May has NOT been one of my favorites in 2026 so far… and that is a blessing!

One of the biggest difficulties in the job I do and one of the things that causes me the most unrest and unsettledness in my being… is I do not really “solve” anything. I can’t honestly make a dad stop drinking or get a mom to stop using or stop grandparents or caregivers from the vicious cycle of sexual abuse. I can do very little about gangs and violence and 12 year olds who can’t stop vaping. I can not “solve” MOST of the difficulties my kids deal with in their lives… that is truly heart-breaking to me… and SOMETIMES gets the better of me. But THAT is the thing! In THAT personal, hellish hopelessness and inability to create the changes I want and need to see for others… I have needed to create a personal, rock-solid, impermeable and untouchable, ever-present and never ending… quiet, unspoken, resilient inner peace.

I can not do what I do in this world WITHOUT this personal inner peace and resilience. The things I deal with on a daily basis are often simply TOO MUCH… but I am STILL here. I STILL show up for work daily and I STILL give 110% in everything I do. I STILL change kids lives for the better and I am STILL really, really good at what I do. And THIS is the reason I am going to invest in my website and continue to invest in myself.

Yes, I can not solve a lot of things in this world. If I am honest, I am not quite so certain I can make any difference at all. But I know my mission and I know my goal. Most simply stated, when life shifts (as we know it will) I want others to have and to experience their own quiet, inner peace…

    Hi Hylan 🙂

This is a very interesting and thoughtful post! 😀

As I read through it, I was reminded of the concept “Rest in Peace” … and how Freud apparently thought that death is usually (or always?) a “willed” act.

My own main concern is generally in the field of “information” (I am what was *once* known as an “information scientist” — and yet that concept seems to be unclear to many/most people … since it has [IMHO] more to do with things like psychology and language than it does with computers or algorithms … I have already written about this on many blogs already 😉 ).

Nonetheless, the technology of “tagging” is also a very useful thing. I followed your blog’s tag-link to “inner peace” and found that this is apparently your first post linked this way. Then I decided to follow your blog’s tag-link to “resilience” and sound that it is also linked to your post about scars (from ca. 2 years ago).

Since this is a goal you have (and since tags are only meaningful insofar as they create links *between* posts), I think in time you will write more about the “inner peace” concept … (?)

    🙂 Norbert

Thank you, Norbert. This is a very interesting and thoughtful response… I appreciate greatly such an effort. The fact that you bring up the “tags” I use hits on something that ALWAYS confuses me and every time I enter them I am just wondering… “What am I supposed to write here? Why am I including this? Am I misleading people?” I haven’t really thought I was doing anything “wrong” or “damaging” because the people who read my posts are so limited… but this response makes me rethink my process and what tags I actually use… Please let me think a little more about this response and I will add more later. Again, I thank you for the comment.

FYI: WP imports tags + comments (max. 15 in total) … and I will regularly pay attention to what *other* people post for various topics — and TBH this is also how I found your post + your blog. 😉

Greetings, Norbert. I am not really sure what you mean by WordPress “imports tags + comments” but I do understand you found my blog and post by the tag “inner peace.” I guess I don’t really have any idea what I am doing with the tags and I don’t fully understand what you are telling me in the first message… but it seems like maybe I doing something “wrong” or maybe “misleading”… or maybe that is my own paranoia because I don’t really know how to “use tags.” If you have any suggestions or guidance, please let me know. I just like to write and think… I don’t really know the “science” behind algorithms and the internet… but I am interested to know more. Thank you again for messaging.
