“Comparison is the thief of all one’s joy and happiness in this life.”
This week I have spent some time comparing myself against others. It is such a hard thing not to do. Almost impossible. And yet, it offers no real benefit. This week, I told a student, “I don’t care how much you improve, just be better than you were yesterday.”
I do not feel better when I compare myself to others. But if this is something that must be done, I hope I compare myself to yesterday’s version, and today I can simply “be better.”
