I write these words as a currrent employee of FedEx Express. I would love it if these words made any difference for the victims and their families of the mass shooting at the FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, but I know they won’t. THEY SHOULD!

If you read these words, I hope you feel rage in your blood and sickness in your stomach. These thoughts have destroyed my entire week. FedEx, and those whom they might control in the media (I am not really a conspiracy theorist, but I think this is possibly true), would like you to believe the 19 year old gunman who killed 8 people and wounded 4 others at a FedEx facility was mentally ill and only chose FedEx because he wanted to hurt the Sikh community. While this might be true in some respects, it is also nonsense. If the shooter really wanted to hurt the Sikh community of Indianapolis, there are many other places he could have chosen and caused so much more hurt and suffering. He chose FedEx. He chose FedEx for a reason. He chose FedEx because he was an ex-employee of FedEx and he was angry about the way he was treated. How do I know? I don’t. But I do know what it feels like to be used by FedEx as nothing more than a small (insignificant) part in a HUGE machine and ask myself EVERY night, “Why do I continue to work here?”

No one will ever really know what the shooter was truly thinking when he decided to take the actions he took. But I have some insights. If you ask anyone who works at the entry-level warehouse positions, the most likely response is, “I don’t like working here, but I need (the money, the benefits, the hours, etc.).” It is a tough place to work, to say the very least! If you don’t have friends that are willing to listen to you bitch every night, it can be a devastating place. It can definitely be a place that can easily push one off the ledge as well, if they are anywhere near it. The shooter CHOSE FedEx. Out of all the places in Indianapolis he COULD have chosen, he CHOSE FedEx.

And now… why I am so angry! FedEx donated $1,000,000 dollars to a GoFundMe page set up for the victims of this shooting. 8 people dead. 4 injured. Entire families devastated. Entire worlds ripped apart FOREVER… and FedEx donates $1,000,000? A MULTIBILLION… BILLIONS AND BILLIONS AND BILLIONS… company.

$1,000,000/12 people (families) = $83,333.33/ person directly affected by this shooting (that was likely caused by conditions in the FedEx facility).

FedEx is currently finishing the best fiscal year on record. They beat every record imagineable this year. Profits have never been higher. FedEx has HUGE amounts of money… HUGE!!! And they value a life LOST or significantly altered at $83,333.33.

Oh yea, and one last thing. Last Saturday, during my shift, an announcement was made that we should not allow an ex-employees into the building if we see her. There as SO MANY disgruntled employees of FedEx where I work, I can honestly say that when I leave in the evening I am looking around to see where I might go if there are shots fired. At least I can feel some comfort that FedEx (hopefully) values my life at $83,333,33.
