Life Lessons… from Doodling…
I still might add a line or two… but as I was contemplating this “drawing” this week, a few things occurred to me. Sometimes the World is just going to look like a mess. Oftentimes, when you look at a situation, it will seem totally, completely overwhelming and you might have not a clue where to even begin to make any sense… sometimes you just NEED to find a place where you can FEEL some calmness and begin to work outward from there. There are patterns in life, and the more you search, the easier they are to find, and the more sense you can make of things. Some of the most beautiful things we will experience in this life are made up of many, many imperfections and “mistakes.” If you make a mistake in this life, just keep moving forward. “Mistakes” are often just “different opportunities.” Life tends to work itself out… eventually… in its own way. Take some time to try and understand things. Your perspective WILL CHANGE… and this is a good thing. The bends in your own path can lead to some amazingly unexpected results. Not every “space” in your life needs to be filled with “busyness.” There are times when boldness can be very useful and there are times when other tactics can be more beneficial. A momentous life will most likely involve a lot of repetition. YOU get to create your OWN LIFE! YOU are the one who gets to “draw your own lines.” That is a crazy, good opportunity! Do not waste it.
Hylan, it’s crazy to me how detailed, precise, and organized your “doodles” are. Yes, it satisfies me to make simple doodles when listening or thinking to something…but you take it to a MUCH higher level!
It calms me to run my eyes over your doodles. Circles are my favorite shape, and I love the interconnectedness and rhythm I feel from studying this piece of art.
I admire your idea that the PATTERNS in life are evident…we can seek out the calm and beauty in the recurrent theme of imperfection: everyone makes mistakes, and one’s acceptance of imperfection and the interpretation of opportunity that lies within those imperfections can make ALL the difference in a person’s outlook in life.
Thank you for a reminder to reflect and search for simplicity and quietness when reflecting upon opportunities in our lives.
Betsy, I think you may be giving me too much credit. Basically, in this doodle I just took my coffee cup and traced some circles on the paper and then used my notebook to draw some straight lines… and then it is just a matter of basically “tracing” lines again and again and again. I use these types of doodles at work to think and to focus myself when needed. It is just a practice for me that is very helpful. It is actually something I have done for a long time… I probably have done 100’s of these… thank you for the comment!
