Goals and Dreams

I have been thinking of goals recently A LOT! Goals are important in this life, without a doubt. Goals are what keep us moving forward and often provide motivation and positive energy at times when they are most desperately needed. Goals are necessary in this life. Goals are valuable. Goals are good.

Dreams are also necessary in this life. They are also valuable and good. If goals keep us attached to the physical reality of this world (hopefully in a good way), dreams offer a connection to the metaphysical, the spiritual, the cosmic, the mystical, magical energies of beyond… whatever that might be. I am reading a book by Paolo Coehlo currently, and in it he writes “dreams are what feed our souls, just as a good meal feeds our bodies.” I have been thinking of this sentence for many days.

Because of the current circumstances, the dreams I have in my life have been crushed. At the very least they have, and are currently, taking a pretty good beating. In many ways, they are down for the count and the goals in my life are what are still left standing. I don’t know about anybody else right now, but most of the goals I have for the immediate and long-term future revolve around money.

But why? Why do dreams disappear? Why do we LET them disappear? Why do we MAKE them disappear oftentimes? Yes, I understand dreams don’t put food on the table and don’t pay the bills that might be stacking up. Dreams don’t solve the problems around our children’s education or help with any of our relationships.

But dreams DO nourish our souls. And our souls are important. I have a dream. I have never been brave enough to nourish this dream. I don’t know if I am brave enough now, but I feel like my soul is dying, maybe many of our souls are dying, and I need to do SOMETHING.

I have a dream. One day I want to write some words that change the world in a positive way. This has ALWAYS been my dream. I don’t know if it is possible or not, but I sure as hell am going to try! I began writing these Friday posts the first week in June, 2020. I will continue to write these posts until June, 2021. I will give myself 52 opportunities to write something that makes the world a better place. Maybe I fail. Maybe I succeed. It does not matter. My soul feels better already.
