Perspective…

I argue EVERY moment in life is simply how you “look” at it… What do you “see?” What do you “perceive?” Further, EVERY moment in this life we are in TOTAL CONTROL of what we “perceive”…there are other factors certainly, but in the end we “choose” what we “see” in this life. This is one of my favorite alcohol marker “drawings”, simply seen four different “ways.” What do YOU see?

I agree. Perspective is key for everything! There are so many variables in life that you can’t control, but you can control how you view it. It’s challenging sometimes to try and be optimistic and grateful for every situation, but it’s always easier to accept things with a positive attitude and just MOVE FORWARD.

With regard to your alcohol marker drawing…it was interesting to me how I emotionally responded to each perspective…

1: My brain made the most “sense” out of this one. I focused on the green in the middle and everything else felt balanced.

2: My eye was immediately drawn to the red dot in the upper left middle and left me feeling unsettled. I don’t like how the red dot makes the left side of the drawing all confused.

3: This one made me feel most calm…maybe because my focus was on the downward green curve that contrasted with the big pink circle with the green streaks going up? This perspective seems the most grounded.

4: I don’t like this perspective at all! Too chaotic!!!

    My favorite perspective is #3.

    What about you?

Betsy, such a great response! Thank you! You actually kinda broke my thinking on this whole post… YOUR words and perspective on MY drawing DEFINITELY changed MY perspective… Uh Oh! Does that mean I am NOT in TOTAL CONTROL of my thoughts and how I perceive the world around me? Do others have power over us that I did not recognize before?

A couple thoughts… First, it is ULTRA-IMPORTANT to be very CONSCIENTIOUS & PURPOSEFUL in WHO & WHAT we allow to influence us! The people and the thoughts and ideas that we ALLOW to influence us definitely shape how we “see” the world around us… and this can be either conscious or unconscious. I think in today’s world, much of our “influence” is unconscious and this worries me greatly!

However, IF I do recognize YOU and your thoughts influence ME about my own drawing, then I can USE that influence but still be in control of my own thinking and perception of drawings or whatever else I experience in this world… my worry is when the “influence” is subconscious or unconscious and we are not aware (I think social media works in this way)… do we “lose” our ability to control and take responsibility for how we perceive and experience this world? Hmmm….

I have been thinking of my response to your post since I read it yesterday morning. I STILL don’t think I responded EXACTLY how I would prefer but this is my best effort at the moment… As to which “perspective” I like… hmmm… I think you know the answer but I am interested in your guess… 😉

Do you think you like #3 because there is a “tree” (the ONLY really concrete image in this entire drawing) and it is “standing” in “nearly” the correct manner? I never really noticed that before but I wonder if it gives you a sense of “orientation” in what otherwise might be considered “chaotic mush.” The brain is SO, SO fascinating… (I like #1)

Yes!!! Now that I study it again (and consciously know I am influenced by your perspective 😉) subconsciously I think I perceived the drawing as plantlike and everything in #3 in “growing” upwards and the green tubelike plant could lean over like that naturally too. That is most satisfying to me.

And yes, I was going to guess #1. I bet you normally display it that way. 😊

So funny, right? Dang, SO MANY things going on inside each of us at EVERY MOMENT! And yup… that is how I “normally” display it! 🙂
